Security in a micro-market starts with the unique self-checkout kiosk. These are advanced machines that are physically secure, meaning there are no keyboards, USB connections or other interfaces available to access. Furthermore, the security system works “in sync” with the kiosks, helping to ensure that selected items are paid for.


If it’s believed theft has occurred, then the integrated camera system comes into play. We do not hold businesses responsible for the product loss. Instead, we contact our customers regarding the inventory discrepancy and inquire as to if they would want some video snapshots to identify potential culprits. We leave it completely up to the business to handle people responsible for theft however they see fit. If a business is not interested in the video footage, we typically request a company e-mail be sent out and that increased security signage is added to the market.


From our experiences, instances of theft have been virtually negligible with micro-markets, but to help reduce theft potential, we encourage all businesses engaging the service to have the store installed in a “closed location.” This typically means an area dedicated for employees and away from heavy public traffic.
